EMERGENGY PROTOCOLS

The “Emergency Lockdown Procedure” is initiated should a high risk incident involving weapons, hazardous chemical spill, severe weather warning, student/stranger intrusion, etc. occur in the school or on school property, or there are circumstances in the vicinity of the school that could endanger the lives and/or the safety of students and/or staff.

In the case of a lockdown, all school doors and windows will be locked and no one will be allowed to enter or exit the building until it is safe to do so. Our staff and students review lockdown procedures twice each year in order to prepare them for this situation.

Occasionally the school may be closed or classes cancelled due to an emergency arising from inclement weather, fire, flood, breakdown of heating system, utility system or other similar emergency. These situations may occur before the school day begins or after classes have begun.

If schools are closed before the beginning of classes there will be an announcement made on the following radio stations: CBC, CKFM, CFTR, CHUM, CKEY, CHIN, CFRB. Please remember that the radio station will announce ONLY the name of the school board. For your information, our school board is the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

In the event students are unable to enter the school because of a lockdown, they are to go to our primary alternate location. In the event that the primary alternate location is unavailable, students should go to the secondary alternate location.

Primary Alternate Location – St. Margaret’s of Scotland Church basement – 22 Ridley Blvd. (Directions from the school - right onto Harley, right onto Ridley Blvd.)

Secondary Alternate Location – Blessed Sacrament Church basement – 24 Cheritan Avenue (south on Yonge past Lawrence Avenue, Cheritan is first street on right)
